First, thank you Paws on Deck for a very well run and fun tournament. The facility was nice and cool, which was great for the dogs and you even ordered some great weather for the entire weekend. Well done!
Our teams placed the same both days: Aviators 1st in Division 1 and Red Eye 4th in a very competitive Open 1.
We were very pleased with how well our teams raced. Aviators posted a new personal best for the year of 16.108 and ran multiple 16.2’ and 16.3’s. Red Eye ran great with a number of dogs having to change where and how they raced. Nitsa earned her FDCh-S and Feist earned her ONYX! Overall it was a very successful weekend for our team.
Racing was tons of fun! Division 1 is heating up with many new dogs taking to the lanes for teams and performing wonderfully! The final race of each day was very exciting as Aviators raced against FAME 4 Trax. On Saturday, Aviators was seeded first, which meant FAME would have to beat us in the final race and beat our best time head to head with them, which was 16.252, to win first. It was a great race and it came down to the last heat, but we were able to win the race. On Sunday, FAME was seeded first, which meant we would have to win the race and beat their best time head to head with us which was 16.511. The first heat we went out and raced a 16.241, which meant we had the best time and now we had to win the race for first. Second heat we won. Third heat went to FAME as they almost broke their team PB and raced a 16.258 to our 16.356. I had to go to the line judge to see which 16.2 heat was faster, ours or FAME’s, we were just slightly faster, so again, we just needed to win the race to finish first. 4th heat both anchor dogs (Feist & Nix) were early. Daniel did an awesome re-run and Feist finished first. So we won…or so we thought. There was still a flag on our side and we did not know why, as Feist had brought her ball back. What we did not know is that Brooke had also dropped her ball; so technically, we had two flags, not one. However, the judge had only seen and called one. After a discussion with both team captains it was decided that we would re-run the entire heat. The pressure was on! The last heat was also super close, but we were able to get the win.
It was SO much fun for racing to be that close and for everyone in the region to be out cheering on our teams. We are looking forward to more of that during the rest of the season!
Up next is a “home” tournament. We are not hosting it, but it is right here in Fredericton. OMG will be hosting their annual Aitken for Some Racin’ tournament at the Aitken Centre on June 11 & 12. We are super excited for this tournament as our greenie Nika will be making her debut and our friend Lori is coming home for a visit! If you are in the area that weekend, be sure to stop by and say “hi”!!
Until next time,
